We just finished up Chapter 29 today – our final chapter for the year! As you have figured out by now, we take an open-book quiz after we complete a chapter. We then compile those questions from those chapters into our tests. So, a key way to review for those tests is to work on the Crossword Puzzles! I’ve just uploaded the next batch for chapters 23, 26, and 29. They are all bunched together and these questions will form your next test.
So, make sure you study over these crosswords for your next test on Chapters 23, 26, and 29 which will take place on 6/1.
Your final, however, will be given after the test on 6/4 and it will cover Chapters 17, 18, 20, 23, 26, and 29! But don’t worry – you know what questions will be on the test already! Just refer to your test of CH 17, 18, and 20 and your other test (CH 23, 26, and 29) to review. You can also use the crosswords again to help you study for the Final, too! Good luck!
Just to remind everyone – we have the textbook available online. If you look to the right you will see a heading which is labeled “Must Read Posts”. Under that is a link which says “Online Textbook Available”. If you follow that link, you will be redirected to an article that tells you how to access the online version of the textbook. Enjoy!
Remember we have our test tomorrow on chapters 17, 18, and 20! Review those crossword puzzles for each chapter – and you should have already completed the crossword for chapter 20 for homework – due tomorrow, too!
You test is multiple choice – 40 questions. If you studied, you will do very well! Good luck!
Your test for Chapters 17, 18, and 20 is coming up on Wednesday 5/12. Make sure you study the crosswords we did for chapters 17 and 18, and also complete the crossword for chapter 20 (its due on Wednesday). You can even practice them online until you feel that you know the material. Get studying and good luck!
The crossword for Chapter 20 is up and ready to go! Please remember to use the “printable” version to bring to class and use the other version to practice. I have also made available a word bank for Chapter 20 for you in case you run into trouble and need help. See you Wednesday!
I will have the specific information up very soon – right now, my files are missing on my computer but once I recover them, I will upload the rubric and the directions for you to follow.
Basically, you will research the country you chose from Europe and teach the class all about it using a Power Point presentation. (If you don’t have access to Power Point, see me so we can find an alternative.) You may use resources like your textbook, travel guides, or Internet resources to help you. Just make sure you cite that information in your presentation.
Some of the basic topics you will have to cover are:
Background Information
Climate
Culture/History
Tourism
Ecology/Environment
Your project is due by March 16th, Tuesday. You will also be bringing in a dish which represents your country on March 18thfor our class party! This way everyone can sample food from your country!
For homework tonight, I want you to use the Interactive Map to determine which country has the highest percentage of people living in cities (urbanization) among a group of European nations.
When you click on each country, there will be some information about each presented on your screen. Find the information which states what the % Urban is for that country and write it down. After you have found the % of urbanization for each country, conclude which one has the highest percentage rate by looking at the information you have compiled. Have it ready for Tuesday, 2/16 when I see you all again! Happy Hunting!
Your homework, due for class on Thursday, is to look up flights to Europe from here in South Florida. Since our nearest airport is in Ft. Lauderdale, look up round trip tickets from Ft. Lauderdale to the following cities in Europe:
London
Milan
Madrid
Berlin
Just record how much it would cost to fly to those cities in Europe from Ft. Lauderdale. If you want to fly first class, write down the price – but it will be more expensive than flying in other price classes! That’s it! See you Thursday!
I have attached your midterm study guide to this entry. Remember, our midterm is on 1/12, so make sure you study for it! The midterm will be multiple choice and will cover chapters 1-3, and chapter 7 (Latin America and its physical geography). Chapter 8 is being left off because we haven’t finished it yet.
The study guide is very similar to the study guide I gave out for the Unit 1 Test (Chapters 1-3). So, if you used that study guide, all you really need to do is download this one and look over the questions for chapter 7. Look over your notes, your textbook, and use the Study Central tools, too!
As we are learning about Latin America, we are not only learning about the geography but also about the cultures. For tonight’s homework you are supposed to answer question #5 on p. 224. It says:
In what parts of the region do most Latin Americans live? Why?
If you don’t find the answer in the notes you took today while reading section 2 for chapter 8, check the online copy of your textbook (see previous entry for instructions on how to access your online textbook copy).
As we study world geography in class this year, we will not only be examining the physical and human geography around the world, but also how these two things interact. In regards to us human beings, we create political systems, or governments, which we use to help us regulate how resources are going to be used and how we interact with each other.
Recently, it has been discovered that scientists working on the theory of global warming have been manipulating the data to create a picture of things that is more favorable to their theory. Here is an AP news report about it:
Remember when we had a quiz and there was a document which discussed the Kyoto Protocol? Remembering what the Kyoto Protocol was designed for and keeping in mind what the theory of Global Warming is based on, how do you think these two things affect one another? Considering this, if scientists are manipulating data about Global Warming, how does that affect the Kyoto Protocol?
