I started RicardAcademy so that I had a learning management system online and available for my students as far back as 2007. I was teaching at a charter school at the time and although we had internet access, and students were able to bring laptops to school, I reckoned that soon most classrooms would be going paperless and, since I enjoyed tinkering with web design anyway, I would create the space.
I’ve tried adding social networks to the site to help create conversation among my students and I had the silly notion that I could probably reach out to students in other parts of the world and encourage more discussion and help expand everyone’s reach.
In the process, I have tinkered and tried to offer tools that not only would help me manage my classes, but also give my students more resources to help them in their learning. Now, I have decided to streamline the design of the site a bit because many other sites have emerged that seem to fill the roles that I had tried to fulfill in-house.
So, the front door is no longer going to be the social network, but instead a landing site that will offer pathways to my other courses. Please feel free to navigate around and give me any feedback that you may have so that I can improve the site. I am also looking to write more about my pedagogy and other trends in education in the hopes of sharing with other teachers out there looking for similar information.
Enjoy the new look!
