Introduction

Welcome to the world of Art History!

In this class, you will be developing a sense of visual literacy – you will learn how to view a piece of visual art and analyze it. From there, as you gain experience and knowledge of various pieces throughout history, you will form comparisons between works.

In order to achieve this, you will need to learn how to “talk” like an art historian. This will not only make you a more informed art afficionado, and a better artist, but will grant you access to ideas that you never may have been exposed to otherwise. This requires you to become familiar with the terminology and concepts of art history.
