Art History Remaining Schedule to Close Out Year!

Since a lot of you are seniors in my class, I wanted to give you a head’s up about what is coming up. I want to get us through art history from the 18th century to the present. We have to move quickly and efficiently to achieve this so here is the plan:

  • 5/11 – Presentation for Chapter 29 (18th Century Art)
  • 5/13 – Work on handouts for Chapters 29 and 30 (multiple choice only!)
  • 5/17 – TEST on Chapters 17-21 (Renaissance Art!); Work on handouts for Chapters 31 and 32 (multiple choice only!)
  • 5/19 – QUIZ on Chapters 29 and 30; Presentation on Chapter 30 (19th Century Art)
  • 5/21 – Presentation on Chapter 31 (20th Century Art before 1945)
  • 5/25 – Presentation on Chapter 32 (20th Century Art after 1945); QUIZ on Chapters 31 and 32
  • 5/27 – TEST on Chapters 29-32 (Modern Art)

A note about quizzes – your quizzes are based on the multiple choice handouts you complete in class. Once you do the handouts, you should begin studying over them for the upcoming quiz. The information in the presentations will be used to augment what you have read and worked on in class.

A note about tests – the tests will be comprised of the questions straight from the quizzes! So, if you do your work in class, your quizzes will reflect that (provided you study also!). If you do not do well on the quizzes, don’t worry because practically all the questions on the quizzes will reappear on the tests for those corresponding chapters.

So, do the work in class and start studying over those questions.

Seniors – pay particular attention to this workload. You can get everything wrapped up work-wise by the 17th. All you will have to do then is study over your handouts and you will cruise on to the end of the course – and the rest of your life!!

Art History Assessments: Updated Classwork For Each Chapter

Starting with the end of Chapter 5, the Art of Ancient Greece, students in Art History will have to download, print out, and bring to class a series of worksheets to complete their study of that chapter.

Each chapter takes us through a civilization or a period of visual history and in order to prepare yourselves for the quizzes and tests, you will need to know what material is going to be on those assessments. Completing these worksheets will help you do just that.

What you will need to do is navigate via the navigation bar at the top of the site:

Chapters and Periods of Study > Chapter 6 – Etruscan and Roman Art > Materials and Handouts > Classwork: Chapter 6 – Etruscan and Roman Art

Once you click on the file, it will open in a new window. Print out the document and bring to class in order to complete in class. You will need a copy so that you can complete the assignment in class AND use it as a study guide for any quizzes or tests that may be administered for that chapter.

For chapter 5, I will have the worksheets printed out for you so that you can work on them in class as I walk us through what is needed. After this, however, expect to printout the worksheets for each chapter.

AP Art History: Revised Syllabus

As we discussed in class previously, we are changing the syllabus around to better serve our remaining time before the AP Exam in May.

Since we have lagged behind in class sifting through all of the ancient material, I have altered the remaining assignments to expedite things. You will find attached here the new “pacing guide”. The assignment dates and testing dates are etched IN STONE now. I have broken down the content of the course into three sections – based on the percentages usually seen in survey courses in college. We will finish up with Ancient to Medieval this semester; then Renaissance to Present for the 3rd quarter and finally Beyond the European Tradition from the last part of the 3rd and into the 4th quarter. We will be conducting our review about two weeks before the AP Exam and the review will be based on comparing European with Non-European art.

The dates in bold are the due dates for flashcards, tests, and synopses and analyses. NOTA BENE!! Remember that you have to have a set of flashcards (10 key terms, 10 major works of art WITH images), a synopsis and an analysis per each chapter!
